Re: ⚽ Sevilla v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 1-0 (1st leg)
You need to read back through some of the posts Fraser.

As far as I am concerned he has sacrificed his best role to accommodate Rice

As someone said it would be good to see someone sit behind him and Rice and let them get forward a bit more, I'd be tempted to try Kral but I know Moyes doesn't rate him.

Re: ⚽ Sevilla v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 1-0 (1st leg)
I get the Tommy criticism, his deficiencies are clear to the eye
But take away his goals and his contribution is less visible, doesn't mean that it does not exist mind. He provides a strong physical presence, is as hard as nails and patrols about doing the dirty work closing down, getting a foot in, blocking and winning headers
His renown stamina is waning though, bloke is fucked and running on empty, nothing a good holiday would not solve
Tactically I have said for a while a sitter behind him and Rice would help, just gives them a little more freedom

I haven't seen anyone hating Soucek just discussing his limitations with the ball

Re: ⚽ Sevilla v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 1-0 (1st leg)
I think Soucek is one of those players whose performance relies heavily on what is happening around him, how well the rest of the team are playing and how the opponent plays. A bit of an obvious statement really and applies to most players to be fair. World class players can play well regardless. I'd put Rice in that category.

So just to be clear, this Month we are hating Soucek.

I wonder who we will be hating in April 🤔🤔

“ the jock refuses to adapt “

Or if he does…it’s usually too late…

…or it’s Yarmolenko and Matsuaka…

…third rate Prem level…

Re: ⚽ Sevilla v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 1-0
Soucek has to be slow on the ball, if he ever tries to speed it up he just gives it away. As you say he does take that extra touch to get set to move the ball on. You want him on the ball as little as possible, play him further up the pitch would be the way round that.

Re: ⚽ Sevilla v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 1-0
been saying it for months. Moyes needs to sacrifice one of the AMs for someone to sit behind Rice & Soucek. those two are much better on the front foot and would overpower whoever Seville have centrally in the second leg. this clearly won't happen, as the jock refuses to adapt

Re: ⚽ Sevilla v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 1-0
I find Soucek painfully slow on the ball.

Seems to need a touch more than any other player on the pitch. But that has always been the case with him.

Great work rate and good defensively but he has really lost that attacking spark he had last season.

Re: ⚽ Sevilla v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 1-0
We've not been taking our chances for months not just last few games. Its cost us a lot of points.

Antonio is not a natural finisher and needs someone who is to play alongside.
The amount of times he gets in good positions out wide and crosses to no one is very telling as is the amount of chances we miss.

For all the good of the last 2 years it could have been even better had the club been more proactive in the last 3: windows!

Just got into Malaga and got a few hours till before our flight
Disappointed with the result as we missed an absolute sitter and for all their good play in the second half they didn’t create much
Now away goals have been abolished it’s not the worst result
Thought Johnson was excellent fornals and Lanzini were good first half and benrahama was lively when he came on, Antonio did ok without playing really well. I don’t get vlasic and thought it was a mistake to pick him, he’s got absolutely nothing to offer no pace no skill and doesn’t seem to have a shot on him. I actually have no idea what he’s meant to be good at and I’d go as far to say he’s not done a single thing of note that’s made me think hello he’s got something in his locker. Soucek is becoming a massive problem he is truly an awful player if you take his goals away he offers nothing can’t pass can’t run, I don’t think he even won a header last night. Game was crying out for Noble or Lanzini to be dropped back and Soucek taken off so we could get hold of the ball but he seems undroppable even though he seems incapable of passing the ball to one of our players.
We’re well in the second leg and they are well beatable and haven’t won away in 6 games not won away in Europe and only scored one goal away in Europe.
Our big problem is clearly taking our chances Southampton Liverpool and tonight could and should of been 3 wins and we scored one goal and got fuck all. Bowen back for vlasic will make a big difference you would hope and a bit of luck wouldn’t go a miss.

Yeah, Seville are a good team but their finishing wasn't up to much either.

Sevilla have a very poor away record in Europe this season.

Hoping we can pull out the sort of performance at home like against Liverpool, Chelsea or Leicester along with the atmosphere to match.

Away goals not counting this year goes in our favour too now.

It’s a close run thing but Dawson wins that title with a photo finish.

I fancy us in the second leg. We've had a good look at them, they're good but they aint better than teams we've beaten in the past. Rice back to full fitness, Bowen hopefully back and will eat their fullback for breakfast. Noisy pissed up home crowd under the lights, they wont be feeling like they've done the job, they know they're in for a game.

Great post mate and agree with it all
Respect to those who made the trip

And finally, how refreshing that today the posts are on the level, last night some of the utter shit posted was beyond logic and borne of either too many sherbets or a complete lack of football understanding

Re: ⚽ Sevilla v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 1-0
Too much resignation in the comments. All the talk of west ham, the team, being more robust these days the fans have gone in the opposite direction.

We all know that a game like this can get the bowl rocking like it did at Upton park. I remember the second leg of the Oldham cup game when we were 6-0 down in the first. Even then the crowd didn't give up hope.

Yes that was Oldham and this is Seville, yes they are favourites because they are a much better team than us, but we can certainly beat them 1-0 on a special night under floodlights. We might then lose to penalties, but it's not naive to think this team is capable of pulling this off and we are in for a great night of football as a consequence.

There was a strong possibility of us getting embarrassed by Sevilla and we weren't. They look like they could wilt if we are at our best with a rocking atmosphere.

Opposition considered, away from home, we did OK. Still in it. I'd have taken that result pre match. COYI !!
